Zesco vow to qualify to CAF Champions League 2nd stage

Zesco United coach Tenant Chembo says failure is a word not on the clubs’ vocabulary as they prepare for Wednesday’s must-win 2018 CAF Champions League tie against JKU of Zanzibar.

JKU visit Zesco in the final leg decider at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola after a 0-0 first leg draw on February 10 in Zanzibar.

A score draw will see JKU advance to the pre-group stage on away goals rule and so Zesco have no choice but to mount an all-out attack to ensure they get the three points at home.

“It is an important match for Zesco,” Chembo said.

“We all know it is a qualifier and we went away and we drew. So we all know what is at stake.

“The boys are aware about the mission at hand.”

Furthermore, Zesco also have a reputation to keep at home where they are unbeaten in continental action.

“We want to maintain that legacy in terms of positive results at home,” Chembo said.

“Failure is not in our vocabulary.”

Winner on Wednesday will face either ASEC Mimosa of Cote d’Ivoire or Benin club Buffles du Borgou in the pre-group stage in March.

ASEC and Buffles, who meet in Abidjan an hour after the Zesco-JKU game, are tied at 1-1 from the first leg on February 11 in Cotonou.
