Cathy Phiri In Victorious Return To Ring
This Saturday former World Boxing Council bantamweight gold champion Catherine Phiri returned to the ring in a match to support the fight against early marriage.
The international tournament organised by Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions took place at Solwezi Stadium, with the purpose of raising awareness regarding the negative impact of early marriage on young girls.
Phiri beat her opponent, Halima Yadium of Tanzania, with referee John Shipanuka brining the match to a close after Yadium took a number of powerful blows. Other well known boxers making an appearance included World Boxing Council champ Charles Manyuchi, who knocked out his opponent Karage Suba of Tanzania in the first round, and African Boxing Union featherweight champ Alfred Muwowo, whose opponent Patrick Kimweri was disqualified on technicalities in the eighth round.
