ZDA Appoints Fisho Mwale As New Chairman

The Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) has selected former Lusaka mayor and entrepreneur Fisho Mwale to serve as its new chairman of the board.

Mr Mwale, whose business background is in debt restructuring, said he wanted to make the ZDA more visible and relevant to the Zambian people, and to focus its efforts on local direct investments while at the same time securing the benefits of foreign investment to the people of Zambia.

He also announced that his board would be offering seven key pillars of national development, starting with advising the government on how to work with the private sector to lead Zambia’s recovery from the economic detriment of Covid-19.

Another pillar will focus on reinvestment by promoting the “expansion of existing businesses in Zambia as a competitive strategy to reduce unit costs through economies of scale”.

Mr Mwale went on to explain that Zambia would have to focus on its export market: promoting non-traditional products and tapping into the undiscovered markets of DRC, Zimbabwe, Angola, and southern Tanzania.

The new chairman ended his inaugural address by emphasising the ZDA’s sustainability strategy, promising to champion green investment, partnerships between foreign investors and domestic SMEs, and the promotion of impact investments to help Zambia reach its sustainable development goals.

The Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Christopher Yaluma congratulated the chairman and his new board and wished them well in their mandate of promoting investment, trade and enterprise within Zambia.
