Zambia Airways: Board Finds No Wrongdoing From CEO
The Board of Directors of Zambia Airways has dismissed allegations of abuse of workers’ rights leveled at CEO Bruk Endeshaw as unsubstantiated and false.
An extraordinary board meeting was called last Friday at the behest of the Special Committee, in order to inquire into the reports about the airline’s Chief Executive Officer. However the board’s findings at the meeting where that most of the accusations against Mr. Endeshaw are unfounded at present.
As a result, Chairman of the board Bonaventure Mutale has come forward to repudiate the credibility of the allegations, and state that the board does not have sufficient evidence to take action against Endeshaw.
The board’s statement on the matter, released on 22nd October, reads as follows:
“The Board noted observations of the Special Committee that a number of the allegations made by the employees were not substantiated and could not therefore be the basis for any action against the Chief Executive Officer.”
Mr. Mutale went so far as to condemn the conduct of Zambia Airways employees, claiming they had no right to call for the removal of their CEO, and that disciplinary action will be carried out in due course in accordance with the Conditions of Service and Disciplinary Code.
The new flag carrier of Zambia is due to launch in five weeks time, delayed from its original September opening, and Mutale stressed the need for an undisrupted approach to this date. The board did, however, acknowledge the Special Committee’s suggestion for a “corporate governance training program” for the Executive Team and plan to implement this over the next few weeks.
