Millions of Dollars Were Paid to Non-Existent Creditors, Reveals HH

President Hakainde Hichilema has revealed that, in just the two short months he has spent in office, he has already exposed how millions of dollars have been channeled to non-existent creditors.

The President was speaking yesterday as he swore in various significant state roles, including Mr. Mulilo Dismus Kabesha as Attorney General, Solicitor General Marshall Mubambe Muchende, Mr. Felix Nkulukusa as Secretary to Treasury and Dr. Kenny Kalyalya, Bank of Zambia Governor.

Whilst it was a joyous and ceremonial occasion, President Hichilema also felt the need to urge his new servants of the state to avoid the mistakes of the previous administration, and eliminate loopholes in the financial and legal systems.

The President revealed how saddened he was to learn that before he came into power, government suppliers were being paid on repeat occasions for goods that had already been supplied. Or, in some cases, suppliers were being remunerated for goods that never even existed in the first place.

This clearly and shockingly demonstrates that the Treasury under the PF administration was lining the pockets of private individuals using state funds, designated for the welfare of the people of Zambia.

However, whilst appalled by this revelation, President Hichilema also expressed a message of optimism that the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance now had the right personnel in charge to better serve the people of Zambia.

He said, “I am talking of what we have seen and what we are pursuing right now. So we want to pursue the old problems, but we do not want to continue with the mismanagement of that Treasury.”

Addressing new Bank of Zambia Governor, Dr. Kalyalya on this matter, the President continued, “The good news is that you can now do the things you were [previously, under PF rule] not able to do all for the good of the people.”
