President Hichilema Laments Wasteful Expenditure
The President has lamented the failure of the former government to follow proper financial procurement procedures following the reveal of the Auditor General’s report for the financial year ending 2020.
During a media briefing at State House on Wednesday, President Hichilema’s thoughts were shared by his Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations, Antony Bwalya.
It was shared that the President felt regret that his predecessors were so wasteful in their expenditure during their time in office. He added that Hichilema has demonstrated concern at the amount of money being lost in key sectors of the economy.
In a bid to resolve the issue the President has urged procurement officers to ensure that all public procurement meet stipulated criteria.
Previous issues under the former PF government included the Ministry of Health’s negligent procurement of health supplies which put millions of citizens at risk. $17 million was spent on the goods which were deemed unfit for use, hinting at severe corruption within the PF government.
