Defence Minister Commissions New ZNS Industrial Milling Plant

The Zambia National Service has commissioned the ZNS Industrial Milling Plant in Monze, which is expected to lower the price of mealie meal.

Ambrose Lufuma, the Minister of Defence, deemed the constantly fluctuating mealie meal prices unacceptable during his commissioning of the new mill.

Mr. Lufuma reassured the nation that the government will continue to do all it can to ensure the prices of essential commodities like mealie meal are kept within the reach of low-income earners.

The milling plant has the capacity to produce more than 5,000 twenty-five kilogram portions of breakfast meal, more than 3000 by 25 kg of roller meal and more than 1000 by 25 kg of maize bran per day.

What’s more, the facility is also expected to provide 200 jobs for civilians in Monze District Southern Province

The Monze mill is the first in a series of thirteen new mills hoped to make food, basic resources and jobs more accessible for low-income households in rural areas.

They were first announced in 2019 under the PF administration, and have now finally been delivered under the new dawn government.
