There will be painful moments in our quest to improve the livelihood of Zambians, says Mrs Nalumango

The Vice President insists the United Party for National Development (UPND) administration has not backtracked on its promises to improve the livelihood of Zambians.

Speaking during a Q&A session in parliament, Mrs W.K Mutale Nalumango said the government very focused on achieving this goal.

Mrs Nalumango reiterated that the intention of the New Dawn government is to stabilize the economy, and ensure that its benefits are seen by all, as was not always the case under the old PF regime. 

“When the economy is stable madam speaker, that means benefit starts being seen by all,” the VP said.

Mrs Nalumango also noted that while in the shot term the increase in fuel pump price may seem to be unwelcome news, it would benefit the economy in the long term.

She added that once the economy stabilises, the inevitable appreciation of the kwacha will indirectly result in the reduction of the cost of fuel.

Mrs Nalumango further said that the money saved from the removal of subsidies on fuel would be channelled into other areas that need funding, such as Education and the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
