Zambian Toll Fees On New Kazungula Bridge Extortionate

Individuals crossing the newly commissioned Kazungula Bridge from the Zambian side should expect to see extortionate toll fees.

The bridge, which was completed earlier this month, was funded by several banks and funds, such as the African Development Bank, and was also due to be funded by the governments of Zambia and Botswana.

Issues with prices have arisen as a result of the mismanaged spending by the Patriotic Front government in which they failed to pay a US$15million contribution to the project. To balance the costs, the government of Botswana had to pay.

This money was instead spent by the Political Front on procurement of 42 second-hand fire trucks which cost the government US$42million, according to a local source.

As a result of the PF’s mis-managed spending, passengers who are hoping to cross the bridge will have to bear the brunt of high toll prices to help pay for it.
