Zamtel Praises HH For Focus On Digitalisation
Zamtel has praised President Hakainde Hichilema for his focus on the role technology will play in enhancing productivity across the Zambian economy.
The company’s corporate communications manager Change Kabwe said it was gratifying that President Hichilema had chosen to highlight the need for a digital transformation in his maiden address to the National Assembly last Friday.
“It is pleasing that the presidential speech touched on the core issues around the need to kick start the digital revolution in Zambia. The tone sets a very good platform for players in the digital space to play their meaningful role in actualising the intentions of the government and Zamtel is ready to contribute,” Mr Kabwe said.
In his inaugural address to parliament, president Hichilema outlined his government’s immediate priorities in terms of reducing the country’s fiscal deficit and restoring economic growth.
“Rebuilding our economy is top on our agenda. We will implement policies to address the fiscal deficit while ensuring that confidence is restored in the markets,” the president said.
Mr Kabwe has stated that Zamtel is well positioned to help deliver on these promises, supporting government to increase the adoption of digital channels in the provision of goods and services. In particular the company’s Innovation Hub is ready to partner with software development start-ups to help youth entrepreneurs deliver services across the finance, health, agriculture and tourism sectors.
In addition, Zamtel has invested heavily in the country’s digital infrastructure - building over 1,000 communications towers in mostly rural areas - in order to enhance Zambia’s connectivity.
