Kabwe Receives 5,000+ Metric Tonnes Of Fertiliser
Kabwe District has received 5,305.9 metric tonnes of fertiliser from the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) for the upcoming farming season.
The district’s Agricultural Coordinator Chishimba Mubanga confirmed the development during an interview, outlining the specifics of the delivery.
The district has received 1,191.8 and 3,394.1 metic tonnes of D-Compound and Urea fertiliser respectively. The contractor of the supply of D-Compound, Nyimba Investments Limited, have assured that the delivery will occur when distribution starts to avoid the high cost of storage in the area. Comparatively, the suppliers of Urea fertiliser, Nelia and Rockclif have already delivered 82 percent of the commodity, with the remaining consignment expected over the coming days.
Distribution of fertiliser has also occurred in Nalolo district. District Assistant Community Development Officer Fred Mulyata stated that “beneficiaries who comprise the aged, female-headed households, youths and orphans headed households will all receive D-compound, urea and maize but will have to choose between groundnuts and soybeans.”
Each beneficiary is due to receive two 50kg bags of D-compound, one 50kg bag of urea as well as aforementioned crops. It is hoped that 4,000 beneficiaries will be reached in total.
A widow in the local area stated that the support will help her send her children to school.
“As a widow who is farming, these inputs will help my crops grow well and, once harvested, I will sell some in order to raise money for my children’s school fees,” she said.
Implementation of the fertiliser under the new United Party for National Development government (UPND) means that the exercise is being conducted in a transparent manner, Nalolo district political vice chairperson Muliunda Munali has said. It is hoped that the implementation will reduce poverty and increase food security in the district, demonstrating that President HichIlema is already acting on his promise to “put more food on your plate”.
