Government Releases Over K66m For Rehabilitation Of Damaged Roads
Anthony Mulowa, Acting Director Communications and Corporate Affairs at the Road Development Agency (RDA), has said the government has approved about K66 million towards the restoration of damaged road infrastructure around the nation.
Mr. Mulowa has noted this is part of the K350 million initiative, required to repair 368 damaged roads around the country.
Bridges, road sections, and drainages, he notes, are among the predominant components that require maintenance.
Mr. Mulowa told ZNBC news that 108 of the 368 roads are in severe condition and will cost K150 million to repair.
He stated that activities are already ongoing to rehabilitate vital road infrastructure like as the Kafue Hook Bridge, the Ndola-Mufulira-Mokambo Road, and the Kashikishi-Lunchinda Road.
Meanwhile, according to NRFA Director for Monitoring and Evaluation Johane Tembo, it is the responsibility of road engineers to guarantee that contractors operating under their supervision produce value and on schedule whenever they are hired to do so.
Dr. Tembo was addressing Road Engineers from the Ministry of Local Government from the Southern and Western Provinces in Livingstone.
He stated that the NRFA's goal is to guarantee that road projects are completed, paid for, and completed on schedule.
And, according to Ernest Nshindano, Executive Director of the National Council for Building (NCC), it is critical to consistently improve capacity in engineers so that they can keep up with emerging trends in the construction business.
