Nearly K11 Billion Kwacha Released For Development Projects And Debt-Service In 2022

The New Dawn government has announced that K10.8 billion had been released for public sector spending in 2022.

The news was announced in a press release yesterday which explained that the government was pleased with the “positive performance trajectory of the 2022 budget.” 

The release went on to explain that the success of the year had resulted in the sustained financing of social sectors and the employment of 41,000 new employees in the public sector. 

Additionally, the Finance and National Planning Minister Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane, outlined that of the K10.8 Billion, K2.9 billion was spent on domestic and external debt service and other liabilities. 

Meanwhile, K3.3 billion had been released towards the public wage bill and K2.9 billion had been released in transfers, subsidies and social benefits. 

Specifically, the government released K1.7 billion to the Farmer Input  Support Programme (FISP). 

The government also explained that they are confident that bottlenecks in the sector will be eased as the remaining beneficiaries receive their funds. 

Of the K867.3 million released for the implementation of development projects, K775.8 million was allocated to capital expenditure of which 62% went to road infrastructure. 

The rest of the funds spent on development went towards services such as strategic fuel depots and other infrastructure projects such as sanitation.
