FQM Investment To Generate Over 2000 Jobs
First Quantum Minerals (FQM) is expected to hire 2400 people to work at its Trident Mine Limited in Kalumbila District and Kansanshi Mining Plc in Solwzi District in North Western Province.
The news comes following the company’s announcement of an investment of over US$1.2 million. The investment will target the Kansanshi Mine as well as the opening of the new Enterprise Mine at Trident Limited.
The new mine will look to excavate nickel.
Tristan Pascal, FQM CEO, stated that 1800 people would be employed during the expansion of the Kansanshi mine.
Meanwhile, 600 people would be employed at the Enterprise mine, which is expected to be the biggest nickel mine in Africa.
He also outlined that work has already begun to find a contractor.
Additionally, Sentinel Mine Manager, Junior Keyser, announced that the Trident mine would increase its copper production by having efficient machinery.
During an interview with ZNBC, Mr Pascal outlined that the investment had been spurred due to recent stability and favourable business policies implemented by the New Dawn government.
