President Hakainde Hichilema has met with the Invest Africa team visiting Zambia and has urged investment in the nation’s energy sector.
Mr. Hichilema was speaking at State House on Tuesday 21 March when Karen Taylor, CEO of Invest Africa, and her delegation made an official visit. Among the topics raised at the investment roundtable were investment in the energy sector, clean renewable energy and agriculture.
President Hichilema once again stressed the importance of joint venture partnership investment in Zambia, saying that joint ventures were the key to optimising economic growth and encouraging investment.
Ms. Taylor, speaking earlier, said that Invest Africa were exploring partnerships with firms in both the public and private sectors, and that the organisation was keen on creating a diverse investment portfolio to conduce growth via the financial services, technology and infrastructure sectors particularly.
Ms. Taylor also praised the approach and efficacy of the UPND’s economic rehabilitation program, and said that Zambia’s recovery was catching the eye of a growing number of major international investment institutions.
Mr. Hichilema thanked Ms. Taylor and said the government would continue to improve the economy, acknowledging the central role foreign direct investment had to play. The president added that his Cabinet was examining how to improve the legal and regulatory framework of Zambian investment structures to drive better and more sustainable foreign direct investment.
