President Hichilema Arrives in Zimbabwe for Transform Africa Summit

President Hakainde Hichilema has landed in Livingstone City to participate in the ‘Transform Africa Summit’ (TAS2023), which will take place over the next three days in Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls Town. Hichilema is attending at the invitation of his Zimbabwean counterpart, President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa.

The President recently met with Mnangagwa’s special envoy, Simbarashe Mumbengegwi, at State House, where he reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to its neighbouring country. In a statement posted to his Facebook page about the meeting, Hichilema said Zambia and Zimbabwe were “symbiotic countries”, wherein “whatever affects either of the nations ultimately affects the other.”

He also said, “We are cognisant of the fact that before we cross borders to look for solutions, we must look within including to neighbours and this is why we are delighted to learn that President Munangagwa would like us to partner in so many ways including documenting the liberation struggle journey.”

The ‘Transform Africa Summit’ will be host to representatives a variety of sectors, including national governments, businesses, and organisations from over 100 countries. Its list of attendees includes Heads of State, government ministers, the directors of information technology and telecommunication companies, entrepreneurs and academics in the field.

Its theme, “Connect, Innovate, Transform”, hopes to focus the summit on issues of African digital transformation in order to create “competitive, agile, open, and innovative smart societies”.
