HH Opens First Zambian Mining Insaka
President Hakainde Hichilema officially opened the first Zambian Mining and Investment Insaka in Lusaka on October 8th.
The event attracted over 2,500 delegates from around the world and coincided with the celebration of Zambia's 100th anniversary of mining.
President Hichilema expressed his desire for the sector to achieve its full potential. “Once the 3 million target is achieved, the mining sector will grow to support other sectors.” The president explained, adding “We need to grow this sector to a level where minor shocks can be absorbed.” He says this is why the government has set a target of three million tonnes of copper production by 2031.
The President emphasised the need for the Insaka to discuss potential adjustments to laws, regulations and procedures to foster growth.
Additionally, President Hichilema announced that the Government will work with mining companies to develop a production chat detailing how much copper each entity will contribute going forward.
“We extend our gratitude to the mining investors for their interest in the Zambian economy and encourage them to engage in joint ventures. These partnerships are the best way to share expertise, add value, and introduce the most advanced technologies to our mining sector,” posted the President on Facebook.
