Local Traders Pleased at K400,000 Road Upgrades in Chinika
Work to upgrade the Michael Chilufya Sata Market Road in Lusaka's Chinika Ward is underway and is progressing well.
Access to the Market Road had previously presented an access challenge for both traders and customers.
Now, though, the story is different. Phase 1 of the construction of the access road has been completed, making it easy for trucks to travel up and down that portion of the road with no challenges. 600 metres have so far been worked on, and the traders say business has improved.
One trader said of the upgrades, ‘Business has improved; we cannot wait for it to finish.’ Other local traders echoed their anticipation for the road’s completion.
According to area Councillor Masauso Ngoma, 400,000 Kwacha from the Ward Development Fund was allocated for the project, with an additional amount earmarked for other upgrades.
Chola Mwamba, Lusaka City Council Public Relations Manager, said, “Trucks can now access Michael Chilufya Sata markets without any problem.” Mwamba also stressed the need for timely completion of the project, “The rainy season is already in, and they need to speed up the works. The works are being supervised by the department of engineering at the Lusaka City Council.”
“They are also lining up the drainage system along that road because before, it had no drainage system,” Mwamba added.
