58 Kilowatt Manga Solar Project Commissioned in Chama District

Energy Minister Makozo Chikote has commissioned a 58-kilowatt Manga Solar Micro Grid project in the Chikwa area of Chama District.

The project is part of the broader Chikwa Wash energy project implemented by World Vision and will cost over 18.5 million Kwacha.

Mr Chikote outlined other government plans in the sector: “We have a plan, we have a vision to make sure as we continue to expand, so that we will be able to give power to our nation.”

Mr Chikote also added that the Rural Electrification Authority (REA) should be involved in the electricity projects implemented by stakeholders to ensure their sustainability.

World Vision Country Director Marc Nosbach added, “The solar micro gate also powers the Samanga primary schools, which are home to 382 learners and 7 teachers; here at the school, you will have an opportunity for students to get access to technologies.”

Eastern Province minister Peter Phiri urged the local people to safeguard the new project. “Let’s not throw stones on these solar panels; let’s look after them.”

Meanwhile, Chipata Diocese Auxiliary Bishop Gabriel Msipu appealed to the government to attend to the roads and crossing points in Chama South: “These people deserve a good road.”

Chama South Member Davison Mung’andu commended President Hichilema for transforming the area, saying, “The machines are there, the money’s there, come 2026, they are going to vote for HH.”
