FISP Distribution Nears Completion
Distribution of the 2024-2025 Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) farming inputs is nearing completion, with Minister of Agriculture Reuben Mtolo Phiri indicating that seed packs and Compound D fertilizer distribution is already at 100%, while distribution of urea fertilizer stands at 88.9 percent.
In addition, the Ministry has confirmed that over K700 million paid to agro-dealers that have been contracted to supply farming inputs using the electronic voucher system dubbed e-voucher during the current season. It is expected that over 739,000 farmers will access their farming inputs through the e-voucher system, with over 1,024,434 million farmers targeted for the 2024/2025 season overall.
Meanwhile, the Food Reserve Agency has extended the crop marketing season by 30 days, meaning it is now expected to run until 30th November 2024 instead of 31st November 2024. Explaining the decision Executive Director Mwansa C. Chamatete stated, “This decision has been arrived at following a careful consideration of the prevailing situation on the local and international market. Further, this extension has been made in order to ensure that more farmers are accorded time to deliver their maize to the nearest FRA buying point.”
