Zambia joins OECD, marking significant economic milestone
In a landmark development for the country's economic trajectory, Zambia has been officially welcomed as the 56th member of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), becoming the 12th African nation to join.
Tourism Minister Rodney Sikumba hailed the membership as a crucial step for Zambia, emphasising its potential to enhance policymaking and accelerate economic reforms.
Speaking at the OECD welcome ceremony during the organisation's 9th high-level governing board meeting in Paris, France, Sikumba highlighted the strategic importance of this achievement.
The OECD, renowned for supporting developing economies in achieving sustainable growth, has now provided Zambia with a platform to design more effective economic strategies and intensify ongoing reform efforts.
According to a statement from the Zambian embassy in France, the membership represents a significant diplomatic and economic breakthrough for the country.
By joining this global economic forum, Zambia aims to access valuable resources, expertise, and international networking opportunities that could potentially drive tangible economic growth.
