National Green Growth Strategy Launched with K260 Billion Budget
The Ministry of Green Economy and Environment has revealed the National Green Growth strategy, aimed at transitioning the country into a resilient, low-carbon, and socially inclusive economy.
The strategy, announced on Wednesday in Lusaka, serves as a blueprint for the country's economic development targets while minimising negative environmental impacts.
Collins Nzovu, Minister of Green Economy and Environment, announced that the total budget for implementing the strategy is estimated at over K260 billion, sourced from both domestic and international channels.
Karolina Stasiask, Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to Zambia and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), pledged EU support by sending an ad hoc advisor to the Ministry of Green Economy in May to reinforce the implementation team.
Angela Heinonen, Country Lead for the Global Green Growth Institute, commended the government for this significant milestone in the green growth journey.
James Wakiaga, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme, said the strategy's launch shows the government's recognition of the need to strengthen adaptation, mitigation measures, and disaster risk reduction.
