Mopani Increases Productivity, Hires 400
Mopani Copper Mines has produced the first 200 tonnes of copper anodes since the handed over of the company to the new equity partner International Resources Holdings - IRH in March this year.
The development was confirmed by Mopani Copper Mines Chief Executive Officer Charles Sakanya who confirmed that full operations at Mopani Copper Mines are expected to start in October and said that in the last three months 400 professionals have been employed to increase productivity at the mine.
Mr Sakanya was speaking as Minister for Technology and Science Felix Mutati paid a courtesy call on Mufulira District Commissioner Saboi Kabika ahead of the graduation of students at the Mopani Central Training Center.
Mr Mutati said the revival of Mopani has brought hope to the people of Mufulira and he thanked management at Mopani for increasing productivity and employing various professionals.
He said the paying of K220 million to contractors and suppliers has helped people have disposable income.
Meanwhile, Mufulira District Commissioner Saboi Kabika said there is happiness in the mining town following the revival of Mopani Copper Mines.
Ms Kabika said Mufulira residents are hopeful that the mine will improve lives.
