ZESCO’s 100mw Chasamba Solar Project Advances

ZESCO’s 100-megawatt Chisamba Solar Project is making steady progress.

The project is underway in Kafungalubala village within Chisamba district, in Chief Chaamuka's area.

ZESCO’s solar project is part of Zambia's medium-term efforts to diversify its energy supply, which relies heavily on hydroelectric power, and establish a more climate-resilient energy system.

As of Tuesday, August 3, 2024, 120 hectares of land have been cleared, fencing installed, and the main access road to the plant constructed. Work on the drainage system is ongoing. The photovoltaic field transformer foundation excavation is complete, and concrete has been poured for the foundation column.

The project, funded by Kariba North Bank Extension Power Corporation, a ZESCO subsidiary, has generated 230 jobs so far.
