Zambia at Indaba - Delivering Today. Transforming Tomorrow.
"Transforming Tomorrow, Delivering Today" is the theme for Zambia at this year's Indaba conference in Cape Town, the annual gathering of leaders in the mining sector.
Under that theme, ZCCM Investments Holdings Board Chairperson Mr Kakenewa Muyangwa today affirmed the company's commitment to driving Zambia's economic development.
Speaking at the country showcase, he said. “As a key player in Zambia's mining and energy sectors, we recognize the critical role we play in shaping the country's economic future. Our mission is to create value for our shareholders, contribute to the growth of Zambia's economy, and make a positive impact on the communities we serve.”
Muyangwa went on to note that significant strides have been made in the past year “delivering today” by unlocking both Mopani Copper Mines and Konkola Copper Mines Plc, which have since greatly contributed to Zambia’s increased total annual copper production for 2024 by 12% from approximately 733, 000 metric tonnes in 2023 to 821, 000 metric tonnes in 2024.
And in the energy sector, ZCCM-IH has increased its equity stake in Zambia’s blue-chip power energy company - Copperbelt Energy Corporation – from 31% to 32.5% for a total investment of approximately USD37.6 million.
The Chair highlighted ZCCM-IH's future plans which include exploring for strategic and critical minerals, investing in innovation and new technologies, and embracing renewable energy sources.
"ZCCM-IH is not just focused on today's successes; we are committed to transforming tomorrow," Muyangwa emphasized. "We recognize the importance of sustainability and are embracing renewable energy sources to power our operations, contributing to Zambia's energy transition."
ZCCM-IH aims to contribute over 300,000 metric tonnes of copper from its current investments out of the government's target of 3 million metric tonnes per annum by 2030.
The company is also implementing royalty rights for a dividend right in some of its mining assets and has unlocked Kasenseli gold mine and a manganese project under Kabundi Resources Ltd to diversify its portfolio.
