UPPZ Endorses President Hichilema for August Elections

The United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ) has endorsed President Hakainde Hichilema for the August 2026 General Election.

UPPZ President Charles Chanda said the decision to back President Hichilema was aimed at contributing to Zambia's continued development and national progress.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka today, Mr Chanda, who has also joined the UPND Alliance, said it was important for the country to stay focused on building a united, peaceful and corruption-free Zambia. He stressed that his endorsement was not driven by personal interest.

Mr Chanda said President Hichilema should be given another term to continue implementing his development agenda and to complete programmes designed to improve the lives of Zambians. He argued that Zambia would benefit from giving the President ten years in office, noting that much of the administration's first term had been spent addressing economic challenges, including debt inherited from the previous government.

He also called for greater support for traditional leaders and for women, particularly in rural areas, saying both play an important role in national development.

Mr Chanda further urged the government to step up efforts to tackle unemployment in sectors beyond health and education, in order to create more opportunities for young people.

He clarified that UPPZ parliamentary candidates would not withdraw from the elections despite the party's endorsement of the President.
