UNZA Lecturers On Strike
Once again, the UNZA lectures and research union have announced a ‘go slow’ protest effective immediately. According to a statement released by the Union’s PR Secretary staff have been owed since 2010.
Moffat Moyo, the PR Secretary, stated that the Union has a lot of unresolved issues such as negotiations for the 2018 year that are still ongoing.
He has accused UNZA management of taking a casual attitude towards these matters.
University of Zambia (UNZA) management said that it is working with relevant stakeholders to ensure issues raised by the UNZA Lecturers and Researchers Union (UNZALARU) are resolved amicably, in order to prevent the situation from escalating.
UNZA Public Relations Manager, Damaseke Chibale said that management was already putting in place measures to adequately resolve the matter administratively.
The UNZALARU has issued a letter to the University Registrar demanding payment as per their contractual obligations from as far back as 2010 in addition they have asked for a conditions of service negotiation.
