Government Agree to Open 10 Community Game Reserves
It’s a system that has worked wonders in Namibia – community conservancy areas – local tribes protecting the local environment and benefiting from the tourism industry that develops alongside this.
Although long overdue, the Zambian Ministry of Tourism and Arts has announced that they will aim to open over 10 community game reserves across various Chiefdoms this year.
During a visit to the Copperbelt Province, Reverand Sikwela (Permanent Secretary to the Ministry) noted that the response from Cheifs has been tremendous.
The initiative will incentivize, educate and empower communities to the value of our environment here in Zambia and develop a more cohesive and holistic approach to biodiversity and environmental protection.
