Driver On The Run After Causing Fatal Accident

The driver of a bus which overturned on the Mwinilunga-Manyinga road, killing one and injuring 15, is believed to be on the run police have said. 

Northwestern Province Commissioner of Police Elias Chushi said the driver has been identified as Mwandina Kamusak, aged 45.

“Due to excessive speed, the driver failed to negotiate a curve and careered off the road and overturned once,” Mr Chushi said.

The incident occurred at 15:00 on Saturday. The Mitsubishi Canter bus was carrying 17 passengers when it overturned. 

The deceased has been identified as Edna Mpenzhi, aged 43, of Ikeleng’i district. She sustained multiple fatal injuries and died on the spot, police have said.

The remaining 15 passengers were rushed to Mwinilunga District hospital to receive medical treatment. 

Police have meanwhile launched a manhunt for Mr Kamusak, the driver, who is still on the run.
