Heritage Commission To Develop Tourist Sites Across Country
The National Heritage Conservation Commission (NHCC) has announced it intends to develop tourist attractions across the country in a bid to boost Zambia’s economy.
Speaking in Chinsali, NHCC Northern Region Director Kagosi Mwamulowe told ZANIS reporters that the northern circuit in particular had great potential for tourism development.
Mr Mwamaulowe explained that tourist attractions in the northern circuit are set to be transformed in partnership with private developers.
“The event we are witnessing today started in 2008 where stakeholders including the NHCC decided that this area around Chipoma falls be developed so as to attract tourists,” he said.
The NHCC director was in Chinsali to hand over control of the Chipoma falls attraction to Bwacha Camping Sites.
Bwacha Camping Sites Director Joyce Nsamba said her organisation is committed to develping the area in accordance with international standards.
“We have plans to construct charrettes, ablution block, restaurant, and other facilities that will attract both local and foreign tourists to visit this place,” she said.
Local resident Peter Chanda welcomed the move, saying that all residents of the Chipoma falls area supported the development.
Chipoma falls is located on the Chimanabwe river. The river flows through a series of picturesque rapids and cascades measuring approximately five metres each.
