Horizon School Board Refutes Government Takeover
The board of the Horizon Educational Trust has refuted a government takeover of the trust’s primary and high school in Lusaka as illegal.
Board chairperson Leslie Mbula said the government is unable to take over the school under the land acquisition act as the school itself is a business concern.
The government is able to requisition the land and buildings but must release all movable assets, including desks, books and computers, Mr Mubla has said.
In a statement released to the press, the school board calls on the government to “uphold the constitution for once and reverse compulsory acquisition of the business concern”.
The Horizon Primary and High School was seized by President Lungu last year by means of the Lands Acquisition Act in an effort to nationalise a number of formerly private educational establishments.
The Horizon Trust has said it will have its day in court to reclaim its land and buildings.
