Luampa Man Arrested For Growing Over 2.5 Tonnes of Cannabis
Officers from the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) in Western Province have arrested a 49-year-old man from Luampa District for illegally growing over 2.5 tonnes of cannabis.
The suspect is one Ndingila Polesha, a small-scale farmer from the Mwangalesha area. A DEC spokesperson said they had been arrested with the unlawful cultivation of cannabis plants weighing 2.93 tones, as well as trafficking 385kg of loose cannabis.
In a statement to ZNBC News, a DEC spokesperson said the commission had also seized a rifle, ammunition, and a fresh python head, which are now being investigated in conjunction with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife.
The agency also announced that it had arrested two siblings in Eastern province for trafficking roughy 385kg of loose cannabis.
The pair have been identified as Belita Msimuko and David Robert Msimuko of Mphunda village in Lundazi District.
Officers said the traffickers had concealed the drugs in five polythene bags which they were hiding in their shop.
Finally, in the same statement, the DEC also announced it had arrested 21-year-old Mwelwa Tembo in Kafue District for the alleged trafficking of 1.5g of heroin and 2g of cannabis.
All suspects are now in police custody and are expected to appear in court soon.
