Nothing Incriminating About Catholic Priest, Say Police

The Zambia Police Service say they do not yet have incriminating evidence regarding Catholic Priest Father Abel Mwewa after he was implicated in the death of a Catholic Women’s League member, Monica Mulenga, last month.

Police spokesperson Esther Katongo said they are currently awaiting the results of Ms Mulenga’s postmortem, which will determine whether the police are able to investigate Fr Mwewa further.

Ms Mulenga died on 8th April at Fr Mwewa’s home at Kuanda Square Catholic Church. Her death was reported the same day to Stalilo police, who brought her body to University Teaching Hospital.

According to reports from the Catholic Women’s League, Ms Mulenga had been invited to Fr Mwewa’s home on the night of Holy Thursday.

‘She was a married woman from St. Maurice and she lied to her husband that she was going for a funeral with her fellow league members in Kaunda Square. Sadly she died in Abel’s room in the Parish House that night – on Holy Thursday,” a source claimed.

It has been reported that the Archbishop of Lusaka will be paying for Ms Mulenga’s funeral expenses.
