Government Aware Of Teaching Materials Shortage - Phiri
The Patriotic Front’s Deputy Secretary General Mumbi Phiri says the government is aware of a shortage of learning and teaching materials which is particularly affecting peri-urban areas.
Over the weekend, Mrs Phiri attended a handover ceremony for assorted learning materials and sports equipment to schools in Serenje Central Constituency. Speaking at the handover, she said that a general shortage in learning materials was negatively affecting the quality of education available to schoolchildren.
The Deputy Secretary General assured the public, however, that the government was doing everything in its power to address such challenges by providing additional learning and teaching materials itself.
Serenje Central MP Maxwell Kabanda chimed in that the donated sports equipment would go a long way to promoting physical education in his constituency.
The MMD member said he was grateful to the government for responding proactively to the needs of people in his constituency and urged local authorities to safeguard equipment donated for community use.
Serenje District Education Board Secretary Harry Silungwe said his department would work to ensure the protection of donated materials, adding that all schools in the district would get their fair share.
