Chilubi Town Council Commissions 16 Seater Boat

Chilubi Town Council has ordered a 16-seater boat worth K1.2 million in order to alleviate transport difficulties on the island.

Speaking during the commissioning of the vessel at Muchinshi Harbour, District Commissioner Gilbert Mwila said the boat would cushion the challenges of water transport and called on the council’s planning unit to expedite the construction of Chilubi’s new harbour.

At the same event, Chilubi Council Chair Daniel Mwila said the boat would be available to the entire Chilubi population and would be cared for and maintained for the benefit of the entire community.

He added that the boat would result in a decrease in transport emergencies on the island.

Town Council Secretary Thinkwell Mwaba said the boat would improve the council’s quality of work as it would be able to inspect and supervise projects more easily.

The boat is being paid for by the equalisation fund set up by central government for local councils.
