Clinic Set Up To Monitor Those Recovering From Covid-19
The government has set up a clinic to monitor those who have had Covid-19 and to deal with complications that may arise in patients recovering from the disease.
The clinic, which is located at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, only runs on Tuesdays and has so far treated 76 patients.
Health Minister Chiltau Chilufya has said the government plans to construct more such clinics across the country.
It comes as doctors learn of longterm health complications that might be brought on by the pandemic and which require close monitoring.
Consultant Interventional Cardiologist Dr Lorrita Kabwe has said that people who have suffered severe Covid-19 infections might experience longterm adverse effects to their heart and lungs.
Over the past 24hrs the government has recorded 67 new cases of Covid-19 from 1,100 tests. This brings the total number of cases in Zambia up to 12,776 - with 295 deaths.
Meanwhile the planning director at the ministry of local government, Ngoza Munthali, has expressed concerns over increasing non-adherence to health guidelines.
Mr Munthali has cited markets and bus stations as major sites of transmission as many Zambias continue not to follow rules relating the coronavirus.
