Education Key To success - Siakalima

During a visit to Kisasa secondary school and Mutuba community schools yesterday afternoon, the Minister of Education, Douglas Siakalima reminded guests that the success of a nation stems from good education of its people.

During the opening of a new classroom block Mr. Siakalima said that in order to create meaningful development Zambia had to focus on its education system. He also highlighted the importance of access to education as an important part of decreasing inequality between the rich and poor in Zambian society.

“I am impressed with the partnership between the mines, council and the community as this demonstrates public private partnership,” said the minister after the opening and promised to ensure that the school would have adequate to teachers and resources

Speaking earlier, Kalumbila Mine Assistant General Manager, Junior Keyser said one of the most valuable resources at the mine is a qualified and well-educated force.

“The company cannot operate effectively without an educated and dedicated human resource and we appreciate that the building blocks for our human resource is education,” Mr. Keyser said

He added that is why Kalumbila Mine, through its cooperate social responsibility, has built Mutuba community school block and Kisasa secondary school blocks at a total cost of K1.74 million.

Mr. Munjunga, Kalumbila Town Council Chairperson, told reporters that the council decided to construct the classroom block in order to supplement government efforts, saying that “education is the foundation for development no wonder we are supporting government.”
