Copperbelt Province Records Increase in Covid-19 Vaccinations

Copperbelt Province Public Health Specialist Charles Sakulanda has revealed that the province has recorded an admirable 12.1 percent full immunisation rate for the COVID-19 vaccination.

Speaking to ZANIS news agency in Ndole yesterday, Dr. Sakulanda said that the region also has a backlog of people who have received the vaccine but are yet to be included on the database, so this impressive vaccine rate is likely even higher.

Sakalunda added that these new figures will be included as soon as possible as the public health department strives to provide as up to date figures as possible.

Dr. Sakulanda explained that these figures represent a sharp increase in the number of people receiving the COVID-19 vaccine in recent days in the Copperbelt province.

“We are therefore encouraging more people to go and get vaccinated. The vaccine is readily available and knowing that our neighbours are experiencing the fourth wave of the pandemic, soon our country will be hit with the imminent fourth wave as well,” he said.

He added that people should heed the message on the importance of being vaccinated, and filter out to social media misinformation about the risks of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The public health specialist further stated that Ndola has documented 17.1 percent of people as fully vaccinated already, making it the highest city in the province.

Masaiti and Mpongwe have recorded just 3.7 percent of its population as vaccination, the lowest in the province.

Dr Sakulanda said Luanshya and Kitwe have a respectable proporation of their population fully immunised against Covid-19, ar 13.9 and 13.6 percent respectively, while Kalulushi is at 11.4 percent.

He further offered that Mufulira is at 10.7 percent while Chililabombwe and Chingola have recorded 9.6 and 8.1 percent respectively. Lufwanyama district has only documented 7.8 percent COVID- 19 fully immunisation coverage.
