Vandals Damage Zamtel Equipment, Slowing Down Internet

Zamtel have recently suffered several incidents of vandalism against critical telecommunications equipment, resulting in a slow down of internet speeds, the company reports.

The company’s chief executive Sydney Mupeta has said the attacks occurred at multiple sites across Lusaka, with equipment being badly damaged at Makeni and Meanwood.

He estimates the cost of the damages to be in the region of US$50,000.

Mr Mupeta added that investigations into the damages suggests the vandals had a sophisticated knowledge of the telecoms industry.

The chief exec apologised to customers for the inconvenience and assured internet users that engineers are working “round the clock” to bring service back to optimal levels.

“It might take a few days and possibly weeks to fully repair the damaged equipment,” he warned.
