GOVERNMENT AFFIRMS ITS COMMITMENT TO UPHOLDING CHILD LABOUR LAWS

The New Dawn government has reiterated their commitment to upholding child labour laws and stamping out all forms of child labour through the strengthening of programmes within Zambia.

The announcement came during a speech by Peter Kapala, Acting Minister of Labour and Social Security at the World Day against Child Labour cameration in Lusaka.

He outlined that providing children with education is key to eradicating child labour and ensuring a safe future for all.

President Hakainde Hichilema has stated that his government are taking steps to ensure that Zambia is both economically and socially strong, outlining his commitment to making sure that everyone feels safe and at peace.

He explained that the days of perpetual fear are gone and that his regime will ensure that they do not return.

He also described his commitment to prison reform, ensuring that those imprisoned have their human rights met by guaranteeing that, at minimum, each inmate has a mattress and a blanket.

 

STAKEHOLDERS EMBRACE THE NEW DAWN GOVERNMENT’S COMMITMENT TO CREATING LOCAL BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES

During the president’s visit to the Copperbelt, numerous stakeholders have embraced the New Dawn government’s commitment to unlocking business opportunities at the local level.

The announcement came from the Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM) which described the government’s policy as ‘welcome.’ They also said that it was something that small and medium enterprises had been long awaiting.

Ashu Sagar, the ZAM President, said that the government’s commitment to enhancing the private sector will allow local contractors and suppliers to expand their value chains.
