UNWTO Impressed by Zambia’s Commitment to Tourism Education
Zambia’s commitment to tourism education has impressed the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO).
The comments were made by UNWTO Regional Director for Africa, Elcia Grandcourt. She stressed the importance of Zambia’s younger generation being engaged in issues such as nature conservation and eco-tourism.
Grandcourt and the team from the UNWTO are here for the Travel Hospitality Tourism Education Summit, which started yesterday and will run till tomorrow, at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka. The event is structured as an adaptation of the recently launched UNWTO Tourism Education Guidelines.
As part of their visit, they have met with Tourism Minister, Hon. Rodney Sikumba. In an interview with ZNBC News, Sikumba said the Zambia is likely to reach two million international tourist arrivals by next year.
Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary General of the UNWTO, said in a statement released on his social media channels, “Zambia is an example of the power of tourism to become an agent of transformation for many”. He went on to explain how he shared common areas of work with the country’s Tourism Minister, including investments, innovation, and job creation.
