Chief Inspector Evans Siame Dies While on Peacekeeping Mission.
State House Chief Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka has announced that Chief Inspector Evans Siame died in a road traffic accident on Saturday, 8 July, in Cabo Delgado Province of Mozambique.
Siame was one of the five Zambian Police Officers deployed on a Southern African Development Community (SADC) peacekeeping mission in Mozambique (SAMIM), formed in response to mounting violent extremism and insurgency by an Islamist armed group, Al-Shabaab or Al-Sunnah wa Jama’ah (ASWJ), in Mozambique’s northern Cabo Delgado province.
Siame and the other officers were positioned to assist with the transition to a multidimensional force, signalling SAMIM’s development to a humanitarian stabilisation programme from its previous status as a rapid intervention force.
The initiative seeks to pacify the threat of terrorist activity in Cabo Delgado and to facilitate humanitarian assistance and multidimensional peacekeeping.
According to Hamasaka, “Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia, has learnt with deep sadness, the passing on of Chief Inspector Evans Siame”., Hichilema has sent condolences to Siame’s family on behalf of the Zambian people and described the death of the officer as a tragic loss to the nation.
