New laboratory to make 10 million cattle vaccines

The Central Veterinary Research Institute (CVRI) is set to significantly increase cattle vaccine production following the establishment of a cutting-edge laboratory.

The new facility, based in Lusaka, will enable the production of over ten million doses of Newcastle Disease vaccine and more than three million doses of Foot and Mouth Disease vaccine.

According to Principal Research Scientist Dr Alikhadio Maseko, the institute will also manufacture one million doses of various other livestock vaccines, targeting diseases such as Anthrax and Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP).

According to Dr Maseko, β€œIt is anticipated that we should be able to produce rabies vaccines.”

Dr Maseko said that once the laboratory's construction is complete, it will play a crucial role in combating livestock diseases throughout the country.
