Trade Kings provide irrigation systems to 50 farmers in Chipata

Trade Kings Foundation, a charitable organisation that gives back to the Zambian community through various initiatives, has provided 50 farmers in Ngubudu Village in Chipata, Eastern Province, with irrigation systems in response to the severe drought crisis. The scheme has been set up at a cost of over 500,000 kwacha.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Trade Kings Group Public Relations Manager Bridget Kambobe said the Foundation conducted a thorough assessment to identify the region's most vulnerable farmers, ensuring that support reaches those most in need.

Speaking during the handover, Foundation Group Manager for Corporate Affairs and Public Relations, Bridget Kambobe, said the company is aware of the devastation left by the drought.

“We are confident it will help not only for the irrigation of crops but for water for livestock, and it will contribute to the livelihoods of people in this area,” said Kambobe.

Acting Chipata District Agricultural Coordinator Catherine Jere said the irrigation scheme comes at a time when most farmers face water challenges due to the drought.

Ms Jere added that “the government will continue to support community-based initiatives such as the solar-powered irrigation facility as they are a powerful climate change adaption strategy that assures access to food all year round.”
