Chingola MP Chipoka Mulenga Distributes Over 300 Bags of Fertiliser to Support Local Farmers
Chipoka Mulenga, MP for Chingola, has distributed over 300 bags of fertiliser to farmers in four wards on the outskirts of Chingola district, located in the Copperbelt Province. The distribution, which provided 50-kilogram bags of D Compound and Urea Fertiliser, is part of an effort to support local farmers who didn’t benefit from the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP). FISP is an initiative that aims to increase the availability of agricultural inputs for small-scale farmers at a reduced cost, thereby enhancing their productivity.
In a statement following the event, Mulenga, who also serves as the commerce minister, explained that the initiative was aimed at addressing the gap left by FISP, ensuring that vulnerable farmers have access to the necessary resources for the upcoming farming season. Mulenga restated his support for farmers, stating, “as we look forward to a successful planting season, we remain committed to supporting our farmers and enhancing agricultural productivity in Chingola.”
Bishop Chinyembo, the Chingola Constituency UPND Chairperson, also spoke at the event, encouraging farmers to take advantage of the support and produce more in the season ahead. Chinyembo emphasised the critical role that increased farming output plays in ensuring food security for Zambia.
The fertiliser distribution is a vital step in supporting local agriculture and ensuring that even the most vulnerable farmers have access to what they need to succeed. With the support of both government initiatives and private partnerships, efforts like this aim to strengthen the country’s agricultural sector and improve its food production capacity.
