Construction on the Lusaka-Ndola Dual Carriageway Progresses Well

Construction on the $650 million Lusaka-Ndola dual carriageway has progressed since the new road was launched on May 21, 2024.

Currently, the over 130-kilometer Lusaka-Kabwe stretch is under construction, with contractors actively working on the road, as confirmed by a recent check by a ZNBC crew.

The Lusaka-Ndola road is one of the country’s most vital roads for facilitating trade in the region, but the poor conditions have made driving on the road a nightmare for many years. To address this, President Hichilema launched the upgrade of the road to a dual-carriage; 6 months later, works are steadily taking shape

One Motorist said of the construction, “We are hoping that by the end of next year, the dual-carriageway will be completed,” another added that “the new road will help reduce congestion.”

The road upgrade will benefit motorists and create employment opportunities for those in the local area. Eric Hampongo, a local general worker, said, “The road works have given us jobs, and we thank the government and the President.”

For the residents living along the road, the dual carriageway is a significant step towards reducing accidents and ensuring their safety. Kelvin Banda, a Kabwe resident, said the improvement in road infrastructure brings a sense of security to all road users.

Significant progress has been made on the Ndola and Kabwe stretch of the road. A recent check revealed that 90% of the work has been completed, with contractors actively working on the pavements. This update provides a clear picture of the road's development.
