Construction of Six Oxygen Plants Underway
The Government has greenlit the construction of six oxygen medical plants to be built in six provinces, costing $10.4 million.
Medical oxygen is essential for treating illnesses such as pneumonia, birth asphyxia and obstetric emergencies.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, it became clear that Zambia’s medical facilities were vulnerable due to a lack of oxygen.
With significant financial support from the Global Fund, Minister for Health Sylvia Masebo announced the project on Monday at the General Hospital in Kasama, Northern Province.
Speaking at the same event, United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) representative George Kamau said, “today’s ground-breaking symbolises our commitment as a nation to enhance sustainable medical oxygen delivery in Zambia.”
