42,000 households in Livingstone to receive maize
The distribution of relief maize to the community in the Livingstone district has officially begun. The Livingstone District Commissioner, Eunice Nawa, launched the exercise, providing 150 metric tonnes of relief maize to the district.
The relief aims to specifically target the community’s vulnerable and elderly residents. The maize will be distributed by the implementation and logistics partner, World Vision. It has identified the beneficiaries with the aid of the Department of Social Welfare.
The Livingstone District Social Welfare Officer, Olipa Manenga said, “we are looking at the old people that are 65 years and above, we are also looking at those who have vulnerability statues that are registered under social cash transfer. Also, we are looking at those that have been registered recently this year for the drought response that have children who are below two years and also mothers that are pregnant from three months and above.”
In a video broadcast on ZNBC, the residents from Livingstone district are shown expressing their sincere gratitude to the government, with one gentleman shouting, “I appreciate!” and raising his arms.
