Bus Fares Reduced to Celebrate End of Cadre Harassment

Kulima Tower bus drivers have reduced bus fares by close to 50% for routes in and outside Lusaka. The promotion is available between 0500 hours and 2100 hours on Tuesday 20 August and will include all 13 routes operating from Kulima Tower bus station.

The promotion has been offered in recognition of government’s efforts in removing cadres and violence from bus stations in the last three years.

According to Kulima Tower Bus Station Chairperson Nicholas Banda the more peaceful environment of the past three years has enabled bus drivers to conduct their business peacefully and invest in the growth of their businesses.

Bus fares for most routes are K10, with some routes having even greater reductions. The fare for the Kafue-Chilanga route, usually K45 has been slashed to K20, while the Shantumbwe Road fare will be reduced from K40 to K25. The Konga-Makeni route will see fares reduced from K25 to K15.

Speaking on the announcement Chairman Nicolas Banda stated, "We are proud to operate in an environment where we are free from harassment and can serve our passengers with fairness and dignity. This fare reduction is our way of celebrating these three years of good leadership and giving back to our loyal passengers.”
