Two Dams Completed in Southern Province, More to Follow

Two dams in the Southern Province, Chundwe in Zimba and Jongolo in Kalomo, have been built and are ready for commissioning. Valued at over 20 million Kwacha, the dams are part of a broader initiative to tackle drought and enhance water accessibility.

Construction of three additional dams in the province is progressing steadily, with completion expected in the coming months. These five dams are part of an eleven-dam project undertaken by the Zambia National Services (ZNS) and the Ministry of Water Development and Sanitation. The initiative aims to mitigate the effects of drought, support agricultural activities, and provide much-needed water resources to communities.

“When this dam is complete, it is going to accelerate a lot of development in this area”, explained Kalomo District Commissioner Joshua Sikaduli, highlighting the transformative potential of the project.

During an interview with ZNBC News Today, Southern Province Minister Credo Nanjuwa praised the ZNS for its commitment to the project and commended its implementation efforts.

ZNS Commander Lieutenant General Maliti Solochi reaffirmed his commitment to seeing the project through, stressing its role in improving lives and boosting economic development in the region.

By addressing water challenges, this project is set to transform communities and contribute to the country's overall development.
